Whisker Trout Slayer
Since I had great response to the healthy fish cooking topic, so I decided to create another one for another of our favorite outdoor foods.I have had Morel Muchrooms fried in butter and also fried with a egg cracker batter. What are healthy ways to eat these little morsels? I think this week with a little moisture and warmer temps should get them popping in North Central Iowa (nothing so far). How about frying them in olive oil instead of butter? goblueM
imo just cook them in butter, just use as little as neededa tablespoon (1/8th of a stick) has only 12 grams of fat, and the mushrooms aren't going to absorb all of it. If you ate a 6 ounce steak, it'd have about 24 grams of fat - so personally I'd just make the rest of the meal low-fat and enjoy the rich butter-sauteed mushrooms! I'm a morel rookie but all of the morels I made were sprayed with Pam and cooked in tinfoil on the grill. Wanted the full flavor and holy cow were they good!
