2002 buick century gas gauge

Recommended Posts

What position is the gauge in?

With the fuel pump disconnected the gauge should read empty.

You can also place a 200 ohm resistor (available at radio shack) in between the purple wire and the black with white wire with the fuel pump connector unplugged. With the key on the fuel gauge should read somewhere between 1/4 and full.

If both of the above are true than you would be correct with a bad sending unit on the fuel pump module.

Well right now the gas gauge reads full but by the miles driven on the tank we know that there is less then a 1/4 tank left. The gauge jumps around sometimes it will read full and then a minute later it will be empty or anywhere in between.

Thanks

After checking what Airjer suggested I assumed the fuel pump module was bad. After 2 hours of sitting in the trunk working I now have a gas gauge that works. Alot easier then I expected. Also changed the fuel filter while I was at it. Thanks for the help Airjer.
