Bear Recipe?

Bear is of the swine family so cook it like you would pork, an no probs. wat kinda cut do ya have it makes awsome roast, just sear it on all sides an crock pot it for 6 hrs with vegies an such, the steaks make great swiss steak, tenderizer with a mallet, roll in flour, sear in oil an slow cook then with stewed tomatoes an rice. Grind up chunks for burger, dont even have to add anything to it right to grill an season eith favorite stuff u normally use for grilled bugers. Awsome stuff, if for any reason you dont have a wonderfull dinning experience with bear the the meat was not properly handled after harvest of the animal. beat meat is awsome. just to reinforce the fact, you can prepare it like any other wild game. proper handling of the animal wen processing it is essential much more than deer. if it dosent taste good its not the animal or the way u cooked it, it was the shooter who didnt take care of it right away. boar

I've heard you can sautee it in Jack Daniels, preferrably a whole bottle. And when the meat looks done on the inside, you throw it in the garbage and get a funnel out and have the Jack for dinner.

Must of had some of the bad bear that Boar was talking about. Boar gave us some bear burger last fall and the wife used it to make meat loaf. It was AWSEOME. It is the ones the were drove around town all weekend, those are the ones you have to use the jack daniels recipe on.

Yea I agree with ya mrklean, grilled bear steaks is awsome to but right on about over cooking them. Thats why I dont take any chances, an swiss steak them, id rather dry out a beef steak than bear.

MEATLOAF!!!!! JB you made meatloaf!!! with that bear burger....meatloaf!!! MAN..make pattys, put on grill, flip, BBQ sause, indulge, take in the ambiaunce, meatloaf..jeeeeeeze. Just teasing ya, glad u enjoyed it, it dose make awsome loaf, made some myself. later boar

Hey squatch, make sure ya sear them, if ya crock pot them, its key to fall aprt tenderness.

I have a pretty good process for venison roast, so I think I will go with that. Slice it up and spice up with plenty of pepper and steak rub. vegitables on the outsides and cover the meat with onions. Turn on the crock pot to low for like 6+ hours.

Oh I dont dissagree at all squatch, its just that searing the meat seals in the flavor an juices, wich is essential to all slow cooking proccessess. once thats done which only takes a feww minuets, then let er' rain bud. In case you dont know how to do it, Tke a large fry pan turn burner to med. high, get about enough oil to couver bottom of pan, make sure oil is hot but not burning, an you will splatter its a messy proccess so covering meat is good if you can. Just brown meat on all sides. brown to a slight burn is all you need it, it dont hurt it. dont woryy about the thin edges of a steak. Your not cooking the meat, just sealing in juices. I pour the oil from the pan into the crock pot cause that an juices from the meat make better than sex gravy if you like gravy. Well, you suggested it and we had been talking about having meatloaf that weekend. So we took it as a sign from the bear gods that we should go for it. grin
