Mounting an On-Board Battery Charger

jiggin9

Question

I recently purchased a Minnkota battery charger and was looking for some input for a good spot to mount it. I have a Lund pro sport with a walk through windshield to give you an idea of the layout. My trolling motor battery is under the console on the passenger side and the motor battery is in the back of the boat in the lower storage compartment. The installation manual is not very detailed but they want it away from water spray and not directly next to the batteries. I was thinking of either in the bow storage or somewhere along the rear side of the console. I'd like to be able to see it easily to check charging status if possible. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I mounted mine inside a storage compatment. You'll probably need to purchase an extension for the cables to reach one of the batteries. Because of where I located it I will probably have to make sure to open the compartment to prevent heat build-up while charging. Maybe you could locate yours under a console. Make sure to have plenty of ventillation for dissipating heat according to your OEM manual.

i have a minn kota dual bank charger and i mounted it right in the open. it is back by the batteries on the end of the rod box just a few inches off the floor. i do store boat inside however. i know when i moutned it there i was thinking this will never take the trailering and was worried it would vibrate loose. 8 years later still there. been very happy with the minn kota.
