Lens suggestions

I'm new to this game and i think I might invest in a zoom lens. I am just starting out but I want something decent. I picked up the new Canon so I'm thinking it would be best to match it up with a Canon lens. What would you suggest? Thanks.

Jason, take a look at the stick at the top of the forum "photography how-to". It has some info you might find helpful. You will see some beginner recommendations and it will likely form a few more questions for you to ask. Look there and then post back here for more detailed information Congratulations on the new camera as well.

Jason, as I am sure you are well aware of already there is a large range in prices and brands of lenses available to the consumer. I have stayed with the canon branch since I started in photography about 5 years ago. If you are on a budget I think the canon 55-250 is an excellent starter lens that will give you some reach and can be picked up for a couple hundred bucks. The next step up would probably be a 70-200 with or without IS makes a large difference in price. Great image quality in both though. The next step would probably be a 100-400 but used price then is about $1200-$1400. Awesome wildlife and avian lens and many on this board are or have been owners of this lens.
