deep cycle water level

jwmiller33

Question

I looked at the level of water in my deep cycles last night and couldn't figure out how I was supposed to tell what the appropriate level was. Couldn't see any line or anything like that. Is there a way to tell how full it should be with distilled water? I was thinking about adding some water just to be sure it isn't low. Is there a problem with too much water in the battery? I know it is an issue if it is low, but not sure if there is a problem with overfilling? Any help would be much appreciated.

Electrolyte should be just to the bottom of the cell "hole" or vent well. About 1/2"above battery seperator plates. Too much water will weaken the electrolyte, and can cause "boil over" when recharging. Always use distilled and never let the level drop below the top of the plates.

Make sure to fill enough so that you have at least a 1/4" over you plates if you check your batteries a couple times during the summer and a 1/2" if you can't get to them very easily. You never want to have the plates exposed.
