Wiring Question

I have a 16 ft single console boat with a 40 HP motor. I decided to wait until next year to upgrade to a larger boat, but I didn't want to wait to get a 24v Terrova with I Pilot.

The issue I have now is battery space. My gas tank is located in the back of the boat and that only leaves me space for 2 batteries and I have space for one in the front storage area if I have to put one there.

Would there be an issue using one of the trolling batteries for a starting battery? I have an on board charge and can't imagine ever draining my batteries down too far in one day with a 16 ft boat.

Ideally you want to have both batteries in a 24v system only used for the 24v motor. You can always get two smaller 12v batts instead of big ones, to save some room and weight. (i.e. group 24's)

You COULD do it with total of two batts, but not ideal. I doubt that 40 hp uses much juice to start, but trim does. Others know more than me though smile
