"crackling" speaker

Recommended Posts

one of the speakers in the door of the wifes g6 rattles. It only seems to do do it when the car is sitting still or going slowly. Seems fine at hwy speeds. Is something loose that i can fix, or is the speaker bad?

It could be either, loose or bad. Does it stop if you put pressure on the grille that covers it? Does it get worse if you turn up the bass or turn the balance all the way to that side?

The door panels come off fairly easily on G6s so it may be worth your time to pop it off for a better look.

Can't really push on the outside. I've been waiting to pop the door panel off til now so I didn't break any plastic in the cold. I do think it gets worse with more bass.

Whats the best/easiest way to get the door panel off?

First, behind the inside door handle there is a small plug you have to pop open to access the retainer screw, the remove it. Also on the outside edge of the door (when its open) there is a small plug style retainer. (a bit blury) Push the center in to release it and it should come out easily. Then with a small flat blade screw driver slide it in at the bottom of the door panel and pry out slowly but firmly.(If you peek in with a flashlight you will see the push in retainers) Try to stay close to them while prying as to not damage the panel. Once they are popped loose, lift on the panel to release it from the window opening. Als watch the wiring and unplug what you need to enough to gain access.

Turn the balance and fader to that speaker. Turn the volume up somewhat and see if it continues. If not, then its probably a short/loose connection somewhere along the line.
