DroidX to TV?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if you can download movies to your Droid and then play them back on an HD TV using the HDMI cable? I started playing around with it but I don't have WiFi at home. If you can do that I would get WiFi hooked up at home and then join netflix or something and download movies to watch. I know you can do that from the computer but my TV is too far away from computer. My local blockbuster closed up.

I'm not sure about the Droid X, but there are kernals/hacks availabe that will allow HDMI mirroring for the EVO. I would guess there is probably one for the Droid X as well. This will output whatever is on your phone's screen to be displayed on a monitor via the HDMI connection. Haven't looked into it very much and there may even be a solution for non-rooted phones too. I quickly read some stuff about it a few weeks ago and it was hit or miss the last time I checked into it (for non-rooted devices).

Thanks. It looks like I need to buy long cords to use my TV as a computer monitor or else get a laptop and wifi. Do you think the picture would degrade if the TV is connected to computer with 40' cables (if I can even find them)?

Do you have WiFi on your PC? If so you could share your internet connect via the WiFi adapter (make your PC a hotspot), buy a WiFi included Blue Ray Magnavox DVD players from Wal-Mart (on sale the other week for $69.00) that stream on-line content or Radio had one of those little media boxes for $50 that picks up Netflix and other on-line stream content. Or by a wireless router single band for $50 verses turning the pc into a hotspot. The only issue I see with running your TV as a remote monitor would be the lack of a remote. If you had WiFi you could turn your Droid into a wireless mouse/touch pad to control your cursor at your TV.

No wifi at the house yet but been thinking about it. Don't need it now as only 1 computer at home (not counting my phone). I'll go to a box store or something and see what my options are over netflix mail. Thanks for the replies.
