organizing fishing gear

Recommended Posts

I have long had the goal of organizing my fishing gear in such a manner that I could grab what I needed at a moment's notice and head out, confident that anything I might need was at hand.

A modular system, with compartmented flat plastic boxes inside a fabric "tackle box" seemed ideal.

However, the devil has been in the deatils.

I would appreciate any insight or advice which site members could provide.

Thanks!!

Plano stow-aways. I label all of mine and then just grab the ones that I need. There are grub, plastic, topwater, walleye, crappie, crankbait, I could go on and on. I stuff them in the boat or a soft-side tacklebox. The only problem with this system is that I can't hide how much fishing tackle I have from my wife wink.gif

I also put all of my tackle in plano style trays that can be selected for the appropriate adventure at hand. One tray for rigs, one for cranks, bobbers,musky.... I quit using the softsided tackle bags because they get wet when it rains. Insead I use a small rubbermaid storage trunk. It stays dry and makes a nice little table to set stuff on while fishing, it's also big enough to hold my raingear,1st aid kit, camera, gps, lunch and a few cold beverages.I've cusomized it by adding a carrying strap and 20" ruler for measuring fish. It's great for having everything you need all in one place when fishing in other people's boats. Tightlines!

I am also a fan of the Plano style boxes. I have moved to all the 3700 size boxes. There are quite a few different boxes that a person can get such as the Shimano and Falcon that a bait specific, i.e. spinnerbaits, topwater, crankbaits, stickbaits, etc.. I have three soft sided tackle boxes that I can throw the trays into. One is completely waterproof, another is set up perfect to my liking and is used 95% of the time, and the third is basically a bag that I can fill and throw in the truck to carry extra tackle on fishing trips. It works great for me and almost all of my fishing buddies have converted to similar set-ups.
