Hummingbird 898c si and 585c placement

I just got a 898c si unit that is replacing the 585c at the console. I am either selling the 585c or placing it in the front of the boat to use on the trolling motor.

I have a MINKOTA 55# V1 powerdrive How would you run the transducer cable down the trolling motor? is there a way to run the cable inside the shaft?

This is the thing, I will be able to see the 898 from the front so I do not need the 585 but it would be nice to have at times. I just don't want wires all over the place and looking tacky.

I replaced the shaft on my trolling motor and based on that I would say----NO---you can't run the transducer cable down the shaft. The inside of the trolling motor has to be waterproof to avoid shorting out the unit

You will not be able to run the cable inside the shaft, it will have to zip to to the shaft. The powerdrive is a pain in the butt for doing this too because the whole shaft has to slide through itself leaving not much area to zip tie too. You could always get a Y cable and run both units off of the 898 transducer for depth. One thing to take note of is that the SI transducer that comes with that unit will not pick up depth at high speeds, most of us are running 2 transducers for that unit: 1. External SI transducer on the back of the hull and 2. thru the hull transducer that picks up the sonar and depth at all times.
