Baitcaster cleaning/oiling/greasing/whatevering

Last fall I had a Pflueger baitcaster go in the drink. I grabbed it right away, but it got a good soaking. Immediately after, I noticed that it didn't cast nearly as far or as smoothly, and I assume that is not a coincidence.

I figure I need to take it apart and oil/grease something or other, but since last year was my first year using that kind of a reel, I don't really know where to start. Anyone have a link to a video or online article that would point me in the right direction?

It probably had water in the spool bearings after the dunking, that will really mess up the casting. Here is some of Shimano's guides, they are a good starting point to get you familiar with different parts.

I remove my spool bearings (even on new reels) and soak them in a degreaser to remove the factory grease. Let them dry and then add a drop of Hot sauce oil. They spin faster and smoother without the factory grease in there.

I have several (5) Pfleuger baitcasting reels. They range in price from 70 - 110 I spose. So, not top of the line but not bottom either. I am quite happy with my arsenal and do my very best to take care of the 10-13 or so set ups I drag around with me on my bassin excursions. Anyway, from time to time it rains or on a rough run, water in some way, gets splashed around and it inevitably gets on and in reels... then comes dust and other debri from driving on gravel roads or whatever. Shortly after, poor reel performance, weird sounds, shorter less accurate casts etc. I started using reel magic last year on a whim, and noticed a significant and immediate change. After a fishing and then putting Boat back in garage, I take all set ups and lay them across the deck and boat spaced out by a few inches horizontally. Then I liberally spray the reels down with the reel magic. Next trip out... they all work, no slipping, no weird sounds, good cast distance, etc. Give it a try. I have taken a couple apart and sprayed the reel magic inside as well when I felt it was called for. Definately worth a shot. May or may not work for ya but It definately works for me.
