2000 40hp suzuki, anyone have experience w/this motor?

Hey everybody,

I'm looking at a tiller boat with a 2000 40hp suzuki 4 stroke. I'm just curious if anyone has used this engine or one similar to it, and how it has performed for them. The model number is DF40TLY. I'm assuming this engine has power tilt and trim. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I can't comment on a 2000, but my FIL has a newer one and the engine works great. His has power tilt/trim.

Should be a decent engine... make sure to keep fuel stabilizer in it if you don't use it often... all carb'd 4 strokes from that period are very susceptible to gumming in the jets.

Have used Suzzie's in the past, various models/power etc. and they have been, as I assume they are now, dependable and durable engines. Treat 'em right and they'll just keep going. I believe the advice to keep your gas clean is solid. Another thing you can do, if you find it convenient to do it, is pull fuel line and run all fuel OUT of engine if it is going to sit for any length of time.
