Hooking Humminbird 997 up to computer?

muskielaw

Question

I just ordered the AS PC2 kit to connect my humminbird 997 to my computer while sitting on the couch instead of in the boat. The power comes from 8 AA batteries. If I cut off the power pack which holds all the batteries(or whatever you want to call it) and attach a couple of gator clips to hook up to the vexilar battery will it work and/or will I damage my 997? I would assume this would work considering this is how it is hooked up in the boat but not sure if the vex battery runs on a differnt voltage or something. Thanks

Your Vexilar battery pack will work fine, assuming its 12 v, and doesnt output more than 3 amp. If so,you will need a inline fuse, or should have, although the chance of a spike with an external power source is near impossible, unless your hooked up when charging the system.

You wont be able to save any of your settings changes without a xducer and puck attached, but you can for sure play around with it, and look at your mapping chip.

I use a radio shack power source for working on the bench.

I believe Humminbird sells them for either 24.99 or 29.99. I was able to find it a little cheaper off e bay. The package comes the cable to hook your graph to the computer and then the power pack which requires 8 AA batteries. As Reddog stated you can either cut the power back off and put a couple gator clips to hook up to a vex battery or you can get a power pack like he has above.

I'd like to do this to but with all my wires to hook up to power in the boat do I need a special humminbird plug?

How much is that pwr supply?

Thanks

Mine is a Radio Shack Power supply, Model 22-507 It outputs 13.8v 3a. I believe it cost around $50 when I bought it.

You will also need a PC10 or PC11 (depending on your unit) if you dont want to remove your power cord. The only difference is a small round filter in the PC11, otherwise a PC10 will work for any Humminbird unit also.

Sorry for the big picture. If I could edit it down, I would.
