Bayfield/Ashland trout/salmon

Hi All,

Planning a trip to Bayfield/Aslland/Islands area in late June. I've got downriggers/planer boards and have experience fishing lakers inland in Canada, on the North Shore of Lake Superior and on Lake Michigan. Any specific lure preferences in the islands area there in WI? I'm taking my family out in an 1800 Lund Pro-V. How far out would one expect to have to go for some success or any decent "community" starting spots? Thanks in advance...

I'd check into the wisc. forums and post there in the chequamegan/bayfield forum and put a shout out to Jim Hudson. I have done well out there running an asortment of cranks and spoons trolling amongst the islands.

Thanks - I should have known - trout/salmon are pretty much the same everywhere... Some areas have traditional "favorites" (fly/dodgers, spoons, plugs, etc...). This is closer to me (Walker, MN) than Door County or some of the other Lake Michigan waters and a bit more protected for my wife/son - which is more of a consideration than when going with the guys. Thanks.
