Yamaha 4-stroke operation?

Finally got the new boat I asked you guys about and it is GREAT!! A 1750 Crestliner FishHawk SC with the 115 Yamaha 4-stroke. What a fishing boat! But several guys have told me they run theirs wide open when in a hurry. That is close to 6000RPM!!! I have only used the boat a couple hours and I find that 4000 RPM is plenty fast for me at about 28mph.
Does anybody use this motor to troll? So far I am completely happy. They guys at Battle Lake Marine were right, this IS a great fishing boat.

If that is a new motor make sure you follow the break in instructions in the manual carefully or you'll shorten the life of the motor. I put a new 90 horse 4 stroke on my 1650 fishawk and followed the book and she's running very well. Full throttle with only myself will put the rpm's right up to 6000 with a speed of 43mph. It idles down perfect and is a little fast for trolling but if I need to go slower I just throw a small drift sock off the bow. Very fun, but you need to pay attention to where you're going cause you'll get there in a hurry.

I can get my 115 yamaha down to about 2.2 with 2 guys in the boat. Not bad I guess. I wish I could get down a bit more. Thats on a 17, 2004 Explorer. I run about 5500-5700 rpm top speed of 46 alone and half tank.

My Father inlaw just purchased and new boat and Motor (Yamaha 115 4-stoke) and found that the motor makes oil. Did the proper break-in, and is getting gas in the oil. Anybody else getting this problem?
