MN Moose permits to be halved

Well there is lots of speculation because nobody knows the truth yet. Like most situations, there are likely a ton of factors involved. Humans love to point to the one thing to explain everything. Ecology is about understanding how much more complex the environment is than we like to believe that it is. I'm sure that the wolves play into the equation, but just as much as the deer herds, the climate, human expansion/loss of territory, etc.

The one thing I don't get about the climate change argument, is that there is nothing to argue. The weather is getting warmer. That is a fact. Don't argue it unless you can pull a rabbit out of your hat. What you can argue is the cause - human or natural.

Great point the world is a lot more than we can speculate about and it has been warming for thousands of years, look at glaciers receding. How can humans think because of say 150 years (maybe)of accurate weather data collection that we know without a doubt that it is human caused, the earth has been warming and cooling for as long as its been around.

In my earlier post on this subject, I perhaps oversimplified the plight of the moose. Wolves may not be the only factor in their demise, but are significant.

deer ticks/disease can of course add to stresses on the overall population. My main point is, I don't like another preditor messing with a game species I want to hunt. I also figure the more wolves removed the longer the moose can survive in MN, Climate change or not. To me it is quite simple, the wolf is a problem for the moose, humans can directly impact that stress on their life, therefore, enhancing their chance at survival. We selectively harvest the males, the wolf will kill whatever is easiest calf, cow, or bull. I would rather go see the wolves at the wolf center in Ely than in the forests of Northern MN. Call me a selfish preditor smile
