icing trout?

Got a couple pit lakes that are stocked with rainbows and browns real close to the job, the dnr survey looks good with some fish over 20 inches sampled. The is no map for these pits. Any experienced trout ice fisherman out there could give me some tips that would be great. Where to start? Would they be shallow or out roaming the depths? My instincts tell me shallow, but I'm not sure. For lures...I'm hoping for bigger fish of course...something flashy? Pimples? Would it be better to hole hop or stake a claim and be quiet and let them come to me? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully....I'll post up some pics if it all goes well.

I'd fish shallow and sight fish, that is get in a shack and look down the hole. Trout are famouse for spitting a jig in a big hurry. If you wait for a bobber to go down, you may never catch one. A pimple may work for very active fish in deeper water, but there is nothing more fun than watching a trout inhale your jig and setting the hook. Use a small panfish jig with a waxie or a couple euros. Good luck.
