dead crappies on Lake Harriet

disco

Recommended Posts

i went out on Lake Harriet in the cities by canoe last friday and fished the inside/outside lines of the milfoil.... as we crossed back and forth over the weeds, i noticed numerous dead crappies and an occasional dead sunfish.... i must've seen 75 or more dead fish (mostly crappies) floating, tangled in the weeds.... what causes this?

Probably the good old Columnaris disease.
It is very common this time of year.
It mainly affects panfish.

No worries. It will not destroy the population. Many lakes get this periodically. I was on Briggs Lake last week, and saw the same thing.

I saw this on Calhoun also this year, and quite often on Nokomis from year to year, and other lakes around the state. Seems like every spring there is at least one post about this, and always answered correctly by somebody, this time, BLB.
