trouts in dunn and eau claire

Hello everyone. Hope everyone is doing well! I'm just getting ready for the upcoming trout season and would like to try new streams this year in WI. Last year was my first year and I was limited to the kinni, willow, and rush.

This year I want to branch out a little more. I was wondering if anyone had any experience fishing in dunn and eau claire. Anyone fish Wilson Creek (dunn - class I stream), elk creek (looks like it's in a few counties (class I and II) and lowes creek in eau claire (class II). Are there any good public access to any of these creeks? are they worth checking out? if you would prefer to email me information instead of post on here that would be fine too ([email protected]). i just want to try something new this year! will keep info for my use only. Part of the lore of trout fishing is getting out and exploring new waters. Like Len says, trout don't live in ugly places. Elk Creek might be worth exploring a little. Just don't look near PKV's spot.

I think there are plenty of trout in that area. I suggest asking permission. I was shut down from a landowner on Wilson Creek. I asked why and he said because I have MN plates and therefore do not pay WI taxes. Dunn County has lots of brook trout streams. Go by the county maps. Most are Class II and a few Class I.

Thanks for the responses! I think I would rather avoid streams with no public access. I guess I'm looking to see if there would be any with clear public access (i.e. kinni and rush) or through a park (i.e. willow). Of course I'm sure the majority of landowners are nice people, but I don't want to risk the chance of getting my car vandalized or possibly worse things. I'll continue to look out for the threads on here and google everything!

WI DNR managed lands

The DNR has improved this function. You still have to zoom in fairly close to find but it is better than before. I like the satellite view.

Thanks! that is a VERY useful tool! now i can go explore new (new to me) lands! seems like lots of good access for brookies.

Here is Dunn county GIS maps. Once you get the hang of this tool you can quickly identify landowners. If you get lucky you can go a step further and find them in whitepages. If not you will at least know their name and address, go knock on their door next time you are out.

Yeah the DNR link is quite helpful. Please remember too you need to zoom in before all the "pink" colored easements show up.
