advice on breaking in a new shotgun

Recommended Posts

After a couple of months of debating looking and shooting I finaly purchased my first shotgun..I decided on a winchester sx3 (I was previously shooting a hand me down 30 year old 12 ga so I have never had worry about this type of thing)...now my question is, are there any secrets to breaking the gun in, ie...types of loads to use, legth, and the amout of rounds to put through it. I know that each gun has its own personality so its not an exact science, but leading me in the correct direction would help. Also I live in the plymouth maple grove area, are there any gun ranges within a short drive to go put these rounds though that any one would recomend. Any help would be appreciated.

I would say it is not necessary to "break in" a new shotgun but rather that it is a familiarization program: you getting to know your new shotgun -how it shoots, where it shoots, best loads through it. Take it to a trap/sporting clays range. Shoot it as much as you can. When you're done you will have a gun AND a shooter that are "broken in."
