300 F/4 question

Just checking to see if I'm on the right track here, when using the lens in AF if you turn the focus ring as your panning or taking a still photo it changes your focus, not the case with my 70-200, so I mostly shoot hand held, sometimes with a monopod and very little with tripod, mainly because my tripod is not a good one more less a waste of money, anyway I decided to tape the barrel and focus ring and lens hood with black atletic wrap, no sticky residue so that wont be a problem but is this the best way or is there a better option? Are the 4,5,600MM lenses the same?

You will have no problems. When you are on AF the motor will take care of the focus. If you ever decide to shoot in MF then it would be a little bit more work to focus. Here is a cover I made for my lens using a neoprene glove.
