Thanks MA. smile

I am not out of the woods just yet. Mrs. Shack found out it was not a total cure yesterday. grin He got his first trial run with no correction and it was just like nothing changed. grin He was introduced to his new training lead this week so I can bring him more places. The new approach is right before the food goes in the bowl he is anchored close to the area via the lead. Then the food is poured and he has some thinking time to be had with an open kennel door just a couple feet away. Once he is done hooting and hollering, tuckers out and calms down, some praise will be had followed by being genitally guided to his food dish. After last night I figure I am going to give this option a run and maybe kill two birds with one stone. The feeding time issue and helping him with control while on the lead. He actually is quit good on the lead though and he has earned his spot on the right side as my other lab was brought up on the left.

IMO shack this is an oppotunity for you to be practicing the sit and stay routine. Both my pups had to do this from the get go before they could eat. you have them sit and then they stay until you release them. If they move toward the dish, you sit him down again while pulling the bowl up. It wont take him long before he realizes the correlation. My lab had to sit (which she picked up right away) before she could come out of the crate...and that also transferred to the kennel as well. They both have to sit before the kennel door opens.

Start young, it will pay off later.

Now the short hair will follow me to the closet to fill the dish's and then I go to the sink to add a little water to each bowl. In the mean time he runs over to "his" spot and sits down. I set both bowls down, then the lab sits by her bowl and both watch me for the "ok" command so they can eat. Its a nice "routine" roughly at the same time twice a day and they have it down bcause that is the way it was from day 1.

He actually has had the "sit" and "come" commands down for a couple weeks+ now and almost came somewhat natural, which is rare for me. The "stay" is what we are working on this week, but yes I agree this time has been a good period to train. I am a little hesitant to do any real training during this time besides how I would like him to act during feeding. I do not care for using treats and food as the incentive or reward with his training, plus there is no focus on me and all he wants is that dish of food. He is coming around though. Last night he was 100% less aggressive than he was just a week ago.

Yes LB that is what I had meant. smile

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
