Interferance issue ???

What happens if you plug in the router without any PCs or other devices using the internet? Is it when the router is plugged in only or when you generate internet traffic? I would guess you or they have tried a new switch?

Sounds like a head end problem on their end to me.

They may be speed provisioning, in other words just throttling it back. Just cuz the fiber can carry Gig or better doesn't mean the devices on the other end are setup to pass 1 Gig. They have equipment that can be set by port. Just like the different DSL/packages they sell, just all and change your package and they just make a few changes on their end and don't need new links or even devices in the house or business.

Yes it is, TV over IP with fiber.

There is a fiberoptic line coming to the house. From the modem, a cat5 brings signal inside the home and to a cheap 4 port switch.

This is the part I don't get. Why connect it to a switch and then to a router ? Get rid of the switch and go straight to the router.

You could probably eliminate the switch, but that is probably their basic termination equipment and you are responsible for anything past that. You could try going directly from Cat5 from the street to your router, but probably not going to really see much change. The switch is more than like 100mb or even Gib speed and the router interface most likely 100mb.

Then all of your video traffic would be going through the router and video quality and internet performance would depend on the customers router. This way they don't have to support all the different routers.

Ok, looks like it has been fixed almost. Technician came ove and said he "tweaked" something at the station, and actually now everything seems to work good.

Frank, he said he was going to do same for you and see if it improves, you can give them a call and he'll come on over.

So far so good for me, I have Mike on Xbox live, I'm downloading here, Maria on Facebook, and Kathy watching the news. 4 laptops, 1 desktop, 1 Xbox, 1 PS3, 4 phones, 1 DVD player, and 2 TVs. No wonder we need a lot of bandwidth crazy

he didn't do anything to the equip here, which I am sure is exactly like yours, I have a Linksys router too. I didn't ask his name but he was a big guy with beard driving a red Chevy truck. Call them tomorrow.

Fred, at the begin it was blazing fast, now it seems spotty, it could be they gave priority to the TV then internet. I get 11.5mb up and 4.9mb down. not too shabby for this old company.

Don't even try to argue with the lady on the phone, you could be the Einstein of computers (aka Upnorth grin ) and she'll still say you're wrong. I snapped at her once, and I got chewed out for being unpolite, go figure....
