I have a shack but hole hop frequently so I usually just set the shack up and run around. My Strikemaster bibs and coat were a wonderful purchase. as already stated, thats a few bucks but well worth it.

my best purchase was an Ushanka (think furry russian guy hat) and that thing is wonderful. very warm and it covers my ears, cheeks and back of my neck. I picked mine up in Poland a few years ago for about $35 and Im sure they can be found online for the same price. Keep your head toasty and the rest of you will be toasty as well.

that 8" is going to a biatch when we hit 20" of ice.

I agree, it's not fun and our ice is a little deeper right now. A powered auger of some sort is my next purchase as I'm getting more and more into ice fishing. We live on a lake and so right now, after I drill a hole, I cover it with thick foam and put a nice sized rock on top (in my breadbox style portable anchored to the ice). This will usually keep the hole or holes open for at least a day in the coldest weather. If I don't go out for a day or two, it only takes drilling down six to 8 inches to get it open again.
