Someone needs to come up with a hbs with a built in reel. The only part I dont like about the spinner is that when a pike hits it they cant run with it.

Good idea.

I have used a spring when I hang the spinner from the house.

A lightweight bungee cord also works.

I have one I got from a casino (freebie leash for your casino player's club card). It's about 3' long. Works great as part on my live decoy line. It's a good shock absorber for when a pike tries to fly in and swim off with the sucker minnow.

no spinner attack today but I hade a decoy on the spinner for a holder and the 31" luckily missed 5 times but I need to do something cuz it seems this year only 27" and above fish want my deaks... Not a bad thing but I dont wanna lose a spinner!
