Why doesn't HSO fit in my browser?

Recommended Posts

I have tried in IE and firefox, and unless I use the zoom out feature, the HSO HSOforum does not fully fit in my browser screen and its really annoying to have to use the scroll bar, or zoom out everytime I use this site? are there any forum settings that I am missing to solve this problem?

Thanks

Josh

This is on my desktop. Its not that the bulletin board doesnt fit, but the right hand column. This would not be a big deal to me but the search bar and new posts list is on the right hand column and the right hand column is cut just about in half, and then obviously the right hand side of the main HSOforum header as well. Only thing I can come up with is that my laptop is not a wide screen and that the HSO page is formated in the wide screen format but I just assumed that the browser would compensate. No other bulletin boards I frequent have this issue, (well for that matter no other forum I frequent has ~7,000,000 advertisements on it like this one does either!)

What kind of browser and what kind of PC and monitor?

I have used all the browsers with HSO and several different desktop and laptops and never had an issue like this. You must not get around much on the net. HSO is pretty tame comparable to others I frequent. At least HSO does not have the all annoying ghost box that says Click ME! Click Me! that follows you down and blocks your view as you scroll down trying to find the X or No Thanks. Or the second window pop ups like some others. Actually HSO is IMO one of the tamest sites I know of. grin

That is just their way of annoying you into buying their monthly video service and enhancement products. A simple credit card number will eliminate them for good winkgrin

Yes, if I use the zoom feature, and I zoom out to 91%, the page fits perfectly, all 3 columns, like I said before, not a big deal just annoying, when I am on other web forums/sites I then have to reset the zoom to 100% otherwise it doesnt fill the page. Odd....

Not all sites view the same. There are other sites that I haver been to that don't fit completely in the browse. One of the the issue is that many PCs/Laptops are being sold with monitors that are wide screen view and HSOforum programmers are programming to take advantage of that. I know that doesn't help much if you have a normal view monitor, but.....

LOL WHAT BROWSER DO YOU USE!!!??????

If you are interested in seeing if there is a fix for this you need to let us know what you use on a daily basis. I know you mentioned IE and Fire Fox, but which one do you use regularly?

Google Chrome has a multitude of extensions that help with what Upnorth said above. If you are using Internet Explorer this will not help if I list them. Have no clue how to help and if there is a problem. Maybe there is not one?

Unfortunately I believe IE will not have extensions and apps till IE9.

I ran into something similar with Firefox after the last portion of the site upgrade here at HSO. Browsers and site software are adapting more for what Upnorth said and are configured more for a landscape mode rather than a portrait.

If you want to give Google Chrome a shot, they have a couple extensions and one of them is Window Resizer - Version: 1.6.0. This will pull back any site to the proper proportions on your monitor. Firefox has a plug in but I kind of gave up on figuring it out and lived with it till I switched to Google. Free and easy switch. If not I would have to suggest maybe a driver concern.

We have the likes of Chris Prillo to thank for this innovation/advancement:

I guess they have been horsing around with landscaping for awhile:

1024x768 is the screen resolution setting, this is the highest setting available in my display setting.

If I set my monitor to that resolution, it does the same thing. There is no problem with the site or your browser. You must have an older laptop or a video driver is not installed correctly if you can't get a higher resolution than that.
