Snowmobile modifications

I have 2 sleds.

99 Ski doo bombadier GT (2 seater)

99 Polaris XCR 600 (single)

Both have 3/4" lugs and are made for trail riding, but I hate not being able to go through anything 8" or deeper without fear of getting stuck.

TracksUSA told me I could change the drive sprockets on the XCR and get a 1 1/4" track, but the machine is still pretty low and I think it'll still be tough to steer and basically float on the belly. Are there risers or something for the tracks?

Do I need to do the same thing with the other one? Does anyone know of any good articles or places this is done locally to make a sled more usable in deeper snow?

Your best bet with those sled would be to convert them to 136" tracks. This would require tunnel and rail extensions, and a longer track. A riser for the track would not help as much as your main goal is getting more surface area on the snow to help support the weight of you and the sled. Adding a 136" 1 1/4" track would work out well, I believe that is what the 99 RMK's basically were. You really need to change the drive sprockets to fit a 1 1/4" track? I would have to believe there is enough clearance for a 1 1/4", but it's been a while since I had my 99'.

I know I have seen people adjust the mounting holes for the rear suspension to make the rear taller, but it's not something I would recommend doing and would not help nearly as much (if at all) compared to a 136" track. It requires good measurement to keep the suspension aligned properly.
