cold water????????

Why do people say its too cold (water) to fish?? We fish all winter...?? anyone?

I heard someone else saying that yesterday,that the water is to cold the fish will not be biting yet?

Fish are cold blooded. In cold water a fish's metabolism rate {the chemical process of absorbing food} is slower. Thus requiring them to feed less. They spend alot of time being inactive to conserve energy. As the water warms a fish's metabolism increases, requiring them to feed more.

What they measn is the bite will get better as the water warms.

However, the bite can be very good right now if your timing, location, and presentation are correct. Cold or not.

As we get out of winter and into some open water, you will find that the water which is exposed to the air will be a glutton for heat. Fish sense this temp change and become more active. If we get a cold rain, or a prolonged spell of cold wind, or a major cold front...anything to turn this warming process around, the fish wqill sense that as well. They most likely will retreat to deeper water and at best be neutral in mood making them difficult to catch....hence the "too cold" suggestion.
