Electric motor

Little help please???? I will be purchasing a electric motor for a 17'alumacraft trophy, this is a full windshield runabout with a 115 merc......can't decide between a bow mount or transom mount.....if a bow mount it would need a quick disconnect mount so as i can remove and leave it home once in a while....but seems to me a transom would be a pain to climb over just to lift and or tilt.....what you say

Stoneman, I'm running a 16' Lund Pro-V with a Minnkota "65 Powerdrive" 24 volt bow- mount. It takes a heck of a wind to turn me. Whatever you decide on, DO NOT SKIMP! and then go one step UP from there. Better to spend it now than WISH you had it later. Good Shopping!

Stoneman, No question, bow mount. the quick release mount is really really easy and it truly is quick. Unscrew the wingnut and easily slide it off. I would suggest getting a 60" shaft rather than 54". No matter what pound thrust you get if the motor is out of the water it doesn't work. I'd also highly suggest a 24 volt model, rather than 12 volt. Of course the above has to be weighed with the amount you want to spend. Fun making the decision though.

Fishing addict- A maxxums steering is controled by a wire, the pedal is larger and the motor is turned by pushing with your heel or toe. They also have a different type of mount. The foot control cable is only 6" long, the PD is a 18" cable and is a lower profile pedal. A the steering is electronic, and it is a bit slower than the cable.
