I heart radio app not working?

I've got a hero with sprint and had I heart radio for a while and it worked fine.

I now have pandora on there also and use that too. I have downloaded a few games etc since the last time I used it.

I have the 1.5 android system.

Now if I open I heart radio and choose a station, it just says connecting and shows the station logo but never plays any music.

I close it out and open pandora and it is playing something with in a short period of time.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with the same results.

any ideas as to what to do to get it to wok? I listen to the AM talk shows on this in stead of muic.

Aso how does one upgrade the android system?

Can you go into "settings" and then "system updates" to check?

Quote:
Update your software

To update your Hero over the air:

Go to All Applications

Tap Settings > About Phone > System Updates > HTC Software Update

Select Check Now

Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update

Note: If the HTC Software Update is not visible on your phone, continue to the computer download instructions below.

Important Note: Installing the 2.27.651.5 update will delete all the data and information on your phone. You will lose contacts that have not been synced to an email account, text messages that have not been forwarded, saved voicemail messages older than 5 days, voicemails older than 20 days that have not been listened to, and call history. The calendar and email settings will also revert back to factory defaults. Pictures, music, videos and files are stored on your microSD memory card, which should be removed before updating your phone.

Check Sprint's HSOforum for support on your phone as well. There is info there on updating it manually if you cannot do it over the air.

When I get to system updates, it has 3 listings.

  • Firmware Update
  • Update profile
  • Update PRL

I'll have to check out sprint web site to do it manually.

Come to think about it, it worked until it said there was an update to be installed for the program.

Thanks.

You could do a hard reset, but that would suck having to reset everything up.

My firmware is still 1.5 and the software is still Software – 1.29.651.1

which is the original it came with almost a year ago...it never updated automatically.

Now after reading the upgrade to Software – 2.31.651.7

Firmware – 2.1 Eclair it is basically like a hard reset. Everything gets wiped out...fun!

Hmmm. I was just curious because after an HTC update my iHeartradio was showing the same symptoms. Always trying to connect but never doing so. In messing around I turned on wi-fi and it started working.....even with no wi-fi signal. HTC issued another update and that corrected the problem along with other bugs.

worth a try i guess, but mine hasn't done any updates according to sprints site. It still has the original OS and firmware from 09. It is set to update automatically.

Looks like i'll give the manual update a whirl tomorrow and see how that goes.yuck.gif

I'm reading some different things about your phone and some are saying that even after an OS update that iHeart isn't working right. Might be disgruntled app users, or maybe legitimate problems with the app and phone...hard to say.

I also read where it appeared to be common for the GPS needing to be turned on for iHeart to work on the Hero.

Just downloaded both the Iheartradio apps available to me in the market onto my Droid2. Iheartradio 1.5 and Iheartradio 2.3 Verizon.

Using 3G, with WiFi off, for both tests:

The 1.5 worked, but was somewhat slow and when I turned off GPS it forceclosed immediately and wouldn't open back up until I turned GPS back on.

The 2.3 ran flawless and quite a bit faster than the previous. I was also able to run it with GPS on or off it didn't hesitate.

So it seems there is a better version available to Verizon customers only, and the one available to everyone is garbage. Just don't really understand why they would have an inferior product still available when they have an update available?

OK,

Temporary problem solved.

I uninstalled the iheart app, then restarted phone.

I did a global search in All apps for "iheartradio" and found 3 different ones that come up.

  • The first just says "ihearradio" but it is the 2.3 version that "should" work on most later OS phones.
  • 2nd option says 2.3 VERIZON
  • 3rd option iheartradio 1.5

I installed the 1.5 version and it seems to work fine. I was trying to use the newer version with an old OS.

I guess I still should update my OS, but better yet need to find out why it isn't updating automatically.
