Trolling

I want to set up my 17 ft. dual console open bow for trolling, it has a 100HP on it. I have a trolling plate on it now, but was wandering about a bowmount electric or a kicker in the back. What is the best set up for trolling on this type of boat.

Thank You

I love the bowmount, but we're mainly bass fishermen and the bowmounts are best for sittin in the chair, casting while maneuvering. Never much good for regular trolling. I'd use a kicker if I were you.

If im trolling bottom bouncers in calm water I would prefer a bow mount. But once you get into the rough stuff a kicker sure is nice.
If you are trolling crankbaits I would go with a kicker.

First thing you should decide is how much $$ you want to spend. Sure is a lot cheaper to go with the electric than to buy a kicker. But hey, if money is no object, buy both!! They both have their place, but I'm guessing you may be better off with the electric on that size boat - you can always use the big motor to troll cranks. If you do decide to go electric, I would get a 24V system - you may find that this may even give you the speed you need for cranks if you get one with enough thrust.
