For anyone who has gone down to Mexico on vacation/fishing trips, how much would you think a one week trip down there including airfare, lodging, charter, living expenses etc cost? What about 3 or 4 days? Thinking of making my senior spring break a fun one...

Lunker; That's a tough one, it depends on lots of things. I hope to head down to Cabo to tangle with a marlin or two in the next month or so, I can give you a breadown on what I'll likely spend based on past trips. Air- 300.00, hotel- 7 nights @ 50.00, If you can find a vacation package you might be able to shave a few bucks combining the two. Or spend a LOT more if you want to be right on the beach. Lots of packages are 7 days. Fishing- 350/day x 3 days for me, less if you fish less of course. Or there are "shares" available sometimes. Remember, if you want a marlin, 1 shot per day is close to average. If you share a boat and lose the coin toss...I've been there. Food, tips, etc...I figure 500 for the week, less if you stick with beer and taco's/are a cheap tipper. Prices are high in Cancun, Cabo, less in Mazatlan. Pacific side is much better for winter marlin.

Have fun in Puerto Vallarta. I would suggest visiting the marina and dropping by the "Master Bait" and talking with those guys. I think on full day trips you run way out to a place called "el banco" reefs and they will refund some money if you are skunked. I stayed way south of town at Mismaloya and hired locals on two days and fished around "los arcos" and caught bonita up to say 15# and casted from shore and caught puffer fish and a whole bunch of other species. I would suggest sticking with the big boats that guide for a living out of the marina, they will have the right gear, making sure you are paid in advance to avoid any situations from lack of communication, tips are appreciated. If you are still putting a package together, try to get an all inclusive deal, you will save big time and dont have to handle pesos at the pool, just bring a $5 tip for outstanding service for every 5 or 6 margaritas. We flew from colorado last spring and stayed 10 days for around $1000 each. Cant beat that.

I went to Puerto Vallarta a few years ago on a spring break trip. We went through MLT an my bill came to $640 not including the extra grand I spent on drinks. Did'nt make it fishing because the fish were not biting. A bunch of cool water moved in and all the fish took off. The boats were only catching about 3 fish per day. not enough for me to spend the money.

Two weeks away from fishing and a lot of drinking...88 degrees today down there and
-15 this morning here...
More then a 100 degree difference will be a shock to the body..but one that I will try to cope with.
