Restricted waters

Are there any waters in Minnesota where motor or boat size is restricted and if so can you use a boat with a large motor if speed is kept down?

There are many many lakes that have a hp restriction.

No, you cannot get away with going slower with a larger motor than allowed.

You will get tagged if caught. It happened to me about 10 years ago on a west metro lake.

MN uses the No-Wake zone to reduce speed and erosion where ever needed. This means that you have to travel at a speed that does not create a large wake.

No wake zones and H.P. restrictions are two completely different things.
There are a lot of metro lakes that you can't use ANY gas motor. That doesn't mean you can't have one on the boat though, just make sure you're using the trolling motor.
There are lots of other smaller lakes and lakes close to, or bordering the BWCA that have H.P. restrictions as well.
