bucketmouth64
Have trouble keeping hook inside bait on swimbaits so they are weedless. Hook keeps coming out after a few casts. I use castaic and northland paddletail swimbaits. I use the ewg hooks some have the screw in type and some have a peg. I've had success catching fish when hooks stay in, but it seems I could do better if hook stays where it's supposed to. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe I should switch to a jig head with an exposed hook like I use with other paddle tails, but it seems these other baits were made to be used with ewg hook. That's what the northland bait comes with.
mainbutter
When you say the hook comes out, what exactly do you mean? Are you attempting to rig the swimbait with no hook point exposed?I have my hook point exposed, but it lays completely flat against the back of the swimbait. You can then skin-hook the point a little bit extra to make it even more weedless, but I find that if the hook point is against the back of the swimbait, it's already pretty darn weed-free.Go to YOUr favorite video sharing HSOforum and search for "how to rig swimbait", I think Bill Dance has a segment on rigging that money minnow bait, I use the same method on all hook-slot paddletails and have never had issues. The only other possibility is that you might be casting too hard. I'm quite capable of casting fresh-rigged soft plastics off my hooks if I fling them with too much umph behind the cast.

I'll have to try your method and have it lay across the back. I didn't think I was casting too hard, I'll have to experiment with this. Hook was coming completely out of the bait after a few casts so hook and bait would be side by side. I've used both spinning and baitcasting to fish these; if I toss any lighter I won't get much distance. Like I said I'll have to experiment.
