Sammy3812
I have an outfitter stove from Cabelas that I use in my wall tent that is about 6 years old and it is starting to rust and corrode. I thought about repainting it with high heat (up to 1200 degrees) spray paint to help with the corrosion. Would this work? Has anyone tried this? Fishinguy40
Just use the black grill/stove paint that you buy at any big box store. I have done it with my woodstove that I use in my wall tent and it works. A couple tips:Wire brush any old paint/rust. Get down to bare shiny metal or it won't last. After paint is dry, have a fire in the stove OUTDOORS before you use it in a tent. This will cure the paint and keep your eyes from burning first time you use the stove. The fumes are awful and your eyes will burn like h#ll if you don't. Yup, I found out the hard way. Sammy3812
Thanks for the info Fishinguy40. I will definitely try that. How long should I burn outdoors before the paint will cure. Do you think an hour will be enough time?
Fishinguy40
I think the temp is more important than how long. An hour should be fine as long as you get a nice hot fire going inside. You should also be able to tell by the smell. Even outside you'll smell the paint burning/curing.
