Holy Moly! I'm almost done building my first cedar strip canoe and when I was searching for some tips on final finishing, I found a boat school that teaches building traditional wooden craft!

I'm not going to post the URL, but the name of the school is "THE NORTHWEST SCHOOL of WOODEN BOATBUILDING".

Does anyone else do this as a hobby?

There is also the North House Folk School in Grand Marais, MN. They have some of the old time craft stuff including boat and canoe building. They also have a HSOforum, and offer classes.

Wish I had the time and work room to pursue something like that. I think it would be very rewarding.

Not yet - but it is a planned "to do" item. I've got a 40X60' pole shed (actually 1/2 of it) to convert in to a shop first, then I'll have the room to do it.

I've also got a 14' Larson wood strip boat I rescued from a friends burn pile some years ago which needs a "rebuild".

If you wouldn't mind - want to take this to email? I've got some questions, etc that I'd like to find out about (what you did, etc).

Mine is [email protected]

There is a magazine I pick up from time to time called "Wooden Boat". Always a good read. It's full of plans and other resources for everything from cedar strip canoes to huge wooded sailboats and yachts.
