Anyone notice stinky exhaust?

So our '97 merc 150 efi runs great. But recently my bro noticed it smelled a bit like deisel or something stinky... It is not horrible, but noticable. Called our mechanic, who we trust, and he just went through a few questions, as we thought maybe our oil injector was out of whack or something... when my bro mentioned the exhaust smelled a bit like diesel or something, the mechanic said he knew exactly what it was - some blend of gas that was just enough funky or different that we noticed it. He said he can smell the difference too with different boats/gas.

Anybody ever notice that before? I think it wass the first time I have ever noticed it. He said just go to a different station, and use non-oxy whenever we get the chance, but that is was most likely just a funky blend of gas, and not to worry about the oil injector, as if it does go, it DUMPS oil in to protect the engine, and then there would be no question on if something is wrong, he said it would be so smokey people would be coming with fire extinguishers smile but it is just to protect the engine.

Anyway, just wondering if anybody smelled this before, or to let people know what we found. It still starts and runs great, even got 51 on gps the other day, which is fast for our tub of a boat. Good luck.
