How late in the season can you seed?

I just picked up a sunny mix that says it's a 14-21 days germenation period. Just curious if I still have enough time this season to plant if I get it in the ground this weekend? This will just be an over seed of decent existing lawn to try to establish some more sun tolerant grasses, after running a de-thatching blade over it.

Would it be good/bad to put this seed down before tomorrow night storm that is calling for .25-.5" rain? Will that help lodge the seed in the ground any more?

If it was me I'd get it laid down before the rain. Rain immediately after seeding only means you won't have to run the sprinklers.
