clacker bobbers

Has anyone heard of these?

A while back Doug Stange (or maybe Larry Dahlberg) did a piece on fishing Mille Lacs smallmouth with these bobbers. At the time he said that outside of redfishing they were virtually unknown.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

The bobbers you're talking about are called Cajun Thunder. They were invented and used for fishing live bait for redfish. They are pretty tough to find, even in the 'net. I managed to find a place in Louisiana that shipped me a few.
I have used them a few times with good success with a 1/16th jig/plastic on rocks.

I use the "deadly combo" from DOA Lures out of FL, look 'em up on the web. Same deal as Cajun Thunder

Insteresting topic.
I have heard about the float and fly righ but have never seen it used. FishNChester have you tried it? any success? What are you normal areas that you would use this? Spawning season?

The Float-n-Fly rig is mainly used as a finesse approach, typicaly with a tiny jig. With the Cajun Thunder, it's quite different. The bobber consists of a float, straight wire with swivels, and beads both above and below the float. The idea is to give a sharp twitch or two, and then let your offering fall slowy back down. The noise of it supposedly attracts the attention of a fish, and then the fish will attack your offering. I've pulled smallies up from 10 feet of water with this technique.

When I first seen them I was impressed, seen immediately they had promise for cats and other game fish.

I chatted with Doug Stange about them on just the subject, that of cat rigging with the Cajun Thunder. We were on the same page as to calling cats with them. Interesting concept with room for experimentation. I rigged a similar version of it before but the hard wire version I like better yet.

They are hard to find locally, or convince sporting good dealers to order. So I made my own from bottom bouncer wire, just to see what I could come up with. It worked, but the Cajun Thunder is a far better product then my homemade version turned out to be.
