Mother Bear and Cubs

Recommended Posts

Last year we didn't have any pictures on the trail camera of Sows with cubs. This year it seems there are at least 3 or 4 of them and one has Triplets. Anyone else seeing this on their cameras?.

Also when it starts to get dark and past shooting hour and the momma and cubs are still at the bait pile what is the best way to send them packing so you can get down? Any ideas?

We usually dont have too many sows in the area we hunt for some reason but this year we have two on camera and one has triplets the other has twins. Hopefully a big boar will come chase them out, otherwise I would say you will have a tough time getting rid of them unless you abandon the bait.

This is a really timely post for me. I've also been seeing lots of sows with cubs. Three of 7 active baits to be exact. I typically don't hunt baits with cubs, but when I run across them I usually break branches to get rid of them. I'm not as spooked of sows with cubs as most, but it's not fun walking out in the dark when you know they are their.

I don't think you will see any boars running off mom and the kids. Sows stay on high ground forest for the most part when they have cubs. Swamps are tough for cubs to navigate. If you don't want sows with cubs you can move or try changing your bait. Boars, at least big boars do not have a sweet tooth like sows and young bears. They need high protein foods.

On top of the Sows with cubs coming in we have lots of good size boars. Probably 250-350lbs. But all 5 of our stations are showing Sows with cubs so I con't think that moving the stations is going to change anything. I'll probably give the breaking the stick thing a try if the cubs come in. At least it dosn't seem like they stick around to long when they are there.

Yea, On one of the bait stations, the first week we have only 1200 piectures of a Mom and 2 cubs. But the next week it was a mom and cubs right aways and then a Big boy after that for the majority of the time but the Mom and cubs were still coming in here and there.

When I say lots I would say like 4-5 different bears Spread out over 240 acres. But they are at every station along with the cubs.
