Public land around Vail?

Is there a lot of public land to hunt around Vail? Looking to maybe to a cow hunt with the GF around that area since we have a free place to stay there. The fish and game didnt have the section released yet to show the land. Thanks

Get a Colorado gazeteer ( sp ) they are very helpful and accurate. Not sure how far youwant to go but a lot of Colorado is state or national forest and open to the public. The best would be to find a wilderness area, there are no vehicles allowed in them, therefore less pressure, noise etc. The farther you hike in the better your chance of seeing game. Remember tho, the farther you hike in the farther you have to pack out. Believe me, it can be worthwhile.

I lived in the Vail area for 5 years and have hunted there traveling from MN for the last 5 years. There is a lot of public land available within a very short drive of the Vail Valley. All of them hold elk and we have been very successful over the years. Shoot me an email and I'll give you a little more info.
