Penn 320 GT Series Levelwind Reels

Recommended Posts

I've used the Penn 320 reels for several years now. I currently have a couple set up on my leadcore rods. I've also used them on Lake Michigan salmon and grouper, red snapper and sharks on the gulf of Mexico as well on the Minnesota river for Flathead catfish, (although I lake it's little brother the 310 a bit better for this).

Pros:

These reels have a large line capacity. They'll hold 290 yards of 20lb mono or a full core of 18lb leadcore with plenty of backing.

The HT-100 carbon fiber drag disks are ultra smooth and giving consistent drag pressure even when it's locked down.

The clicker is heavy duty and loud which is very handy how certain applications like flathead fishing.

These are rock solid reels getting used by fishermen in both freshwater and saltwater applications.

These can be reels for a lifetime even when used in saltwater. Parts are readily available for repair if they do happen to wear out. There's a strong used market on these reels due to their durability and wide spread use.

Cons:

These are big heavy reels build for power and not speed,(4.3:1 retrieve ratio). They can be casted but are really better suited for trolling/jigging applications.

Would I recommend to others to purchase?

Definitely if you are looking for a reel for leadcore, salmon fishing, or med weight saltwater duty.

I give this reel 5 out of 5 stars.
