New Firing pin and spring

Recommended Posts

I was having problems with primer cratering and piercing with my 6mm Dasher. Kept thinking it was a pressure issue and then had a gunsmith check the pin and hole clearance and found it to be a tad much. What was happening is the primer metal would flow back and occasionally would flow enough to pierce them. Ordered a new oversized pin and he made it to fit with very little clearance and that has seemed to clear up my issue. So went back to the range to rework recipes and see if the cratering subsided. No issues and it is shooting Ok with the old "full" load. 4 shots at 100 yards. Getting it ready for the GCSA Balloon Shoot and some prairie doggin' coming up soon.

I will shoot approximately 65 rounds through it in the next week or so and if no problems pop up I will replace the factory Rem trigger with the Jewel trigger I have for it. When a primer pierced it would make the Jewell inoperable because of the back pressure. Ended up sending it in to Jewell to correct whatever happens inside of their trigger. Evidently it is such a precision trigger it couldn't take it like the factory Rem trigger could.

Now you're just showing off WG smile

I just packed all of my loading stuff (we are moving to temp. housing this week, closing on the sale of this house and building a new one.) Still not sure where I will set up the new loading table. I might set it up in the garage but I am worried about moisture and rust.....it will insulated execpt for the ceiling......anyone have thoughts on a reloading center in a garage? I would store the powder and primers in the basement in my locked cabinet......We add a 6' to the length of the garage so i would have a 6'by 20' area to manscape as i see fit.....

Picks:

Yeh, a little shaky because of all the coffee....not a bad group from shooting off hand. smile

My reloading is done in my garage. Keep dies and other pieces subject to rust in the house in a storage container until you need it. Then set it up again. Otherwise if you don't have heat that may be an issue although I leave mine pretty much set up year round but I also have heat in the winter. Humidity is a slight problem in the summer but I do coat my dies/press with wd40 and don't leave much out until I need it.

Hey WG,

Happy to see you got it figured out. I only wish it had been after the balloon shoot!! I have not been happy with my BR since I stuck the bullet. I had Bert bed the action and tried it Saturday about 11am. The mirage was so bad at 600 yards I could see the target jump 6 inches so the jury is still out on my fix. I do not think it will cure my woes. I may have him re-cut the crown if I don't shoot well Saturday. Oops, did I say "if I don't shoot well"? It can't be me so it has to the the gun. Right?

I am practicing hitting eggs at 500 yards as my prediction of who will win the balloon shoot will come down to who can hit their bonus egg at 500 yards. My Dasher has them scrambled. smile

It is your gun I am sure!!! Definately not the driver. haha

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
