Guinnea Fowl?

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

I saw what I swear was a Guinnea Fowl/Hen near my cabin this weekend. I swear it was... Do they use these for game farms, or maybe hobyy farm folks have them running around? I saw one along the highway a few times, but this time was in our yard and the woods near us. Maybe somebody released some?...

Also, do they make a heck of a racket in the morning with their calling? I heard the loudest and weirdest bird calls this past weekend, and never heard sounds like this before anywhere, and not at our cabin for 10 years. Just wierd deal I guess.

Thanks for any info, or maybe I am just crazy... and blind...

Very well could be.

Farms often have them to keep the ticks and mosquito populations down...they are great for that. They are also great watch dogs as they will alarm everyone when something is around.

They do make a heck of a racket...very noisy birds. Hence why they are good watch dogs.

I think they are pretty cool to have around and anything that reduces ticks or mosquitos are great in my book!

Thanks Landdr. That makes total sense, as I have seen them with chickens before. I hope they eat plenty of ticks for sure smile They can fly pretty well for such a goofy looking bird - good thing or my dog would have gotten it!
