wdgold
The article in the Sunday paper indicated the peak population seems to be getting lower in numbers compared to past peak periods. Are they just figuring this out I have noticed this for the last 2 or 3 peak periods that the peak cycle numbers have been declining. TylerS
Well, if that is the case I can't say it's surprising. Look at loss of desirable habitat. Got to keep logging those old-growth forests so we can make way for the young aspen groves. More aspens = more grouse.
charliepete
I'm with Tyler....right now there is some tree hugger complaining about 'saving the forests' without any real understanding of how animals are tied to new growth forest or the fact that naturally occurring forest fires were natures original 'clear cut' until people started suppressing and or preventing them. Lots of uninformed people see clear cuts as scars on the land...I look at them and smile and mark my map for a place to come back to in a few short years when they are full of animals. Doesn't look pretty right away, but in a few short years those supple aspen shoots will be housing the next bumper crop of trail chickens.
