Kenmore Washer - switch issue?

I think I might have a bad timer on our washer. It doesn't turn on, however I can mess with it a while and get it to work, but not on all settings. Advise?

If it's a top loader, what about the lid switch?

If it is the lid switch, the machine would probably fill and agitate, but not empty and spin.

The switch is pretty easy to replace, simply unplug power cord, remove the cover, unplug wires going into the switch, remove the screws and replace. Same with the lid switch, two screws and replace. You can use a small screw driver to depress the lid switch to see if that is what it is, however i have done several of the timers on these washers for the fire dept.

I do suspect the lid switch, however if it is the timer, is the timer motor the same as the rotary on/off switch?
