huntercj
I was just wondering if anbodys got a new 60 yamaha four stroke and how they like it? I am almost postive i am going to repower my 16'5 g3 , it curently has a 60 yamaha two stroke on it now. Also wondering as far as wot if a four stroke will be as fast. Curently boat will run about 30 mph with three people.
Jim Almquist
I re-powered my 1660 Pro-V from a 91 Yamaha 50 2 stroke to a 2004 60hp 4 stroke. The 50 had a better hole shot and the 60 has better top end. The 50 would troll slower but the 60 is so sweet to my ears it is well worth it. I did the swap because I took out the top end on my 50hp. I would have rather saved the money and not re-powered but I had no choice. The newer 4 strokes have a way to adjust the trolling speed but mine is too old.Mine top end is around 31 MPH with the 60 but my boat is a very heavy boat for its size. huntercj
My boats fairly heavy my curent motor is a 2000. I see yamaha has a all new 70 hp outboard way lighter than the competition i wonder how reliable it will be? My boats rated for 70 hp outboard i wonder if ten hp would make a diference? solbes
Sure, 10 hp would make a difference on top end. Figure another 3-5 mph from 70 to 60 hp. The 50, 60, and 70 are all based on the same engine block so you will have roughly the same low end holeshot. The F70 is very lightweight compared to the F75, with much smaller displacement. If your boat is rated for the 70, I would go with the 70.
