DTro
I’ve been doing a little research and have come to the conclusion that having a Task Killer app is a waste of time with the Android software and could actually negatively affect how your phone performs. I will be uninstalling Advanced Task Killer.
Shack
It's amazing what people will pay for a smart phone on an on-line auction. Just sold a Iphone 3g 8g for $213.50. That is more than I payed for it a year and a half ago. It go with the orig. box and a Otter Defender case.

The full retail (non-contract) price and a subsidized price with strings attached is a little different. However when it comes down to money out of pocket, yeah, I've been able to pretty much have the latest and greatest every year or two just by upgrading and renewing, then selling my old phone. Shack
Yep you are right Dtro. What I paid originally for this phone was the introductory price when my work started our contract. We had to buy the Iphones (pay $199.00 out of our pocket), but if you were able to buy the Iphone outside of a contract, it was around $500.00. Since we had an upgrade, the new 4G 16g is $199.00. So it pretty much was just a wash with a new phone. The Otter Defender case was about $50.00 when I bought it, but got some good use out of it. Actually everyone who just upgraded to their new 4G and has me selling their old Iphone on E has Dtro to thank for this. After reading awhile back on how you wash an upgrade fee, I checked into it. I would have just thrown the old one in a drawer or given it to one of my sons as an Ipod with WiFi hook up... Thanks dude!

Reading a bit and seeing a YouTube video on this I guess I'm convinced its not a good thing if used wrong. I'm not going to uninstall it yet but I'm going to turn off autokill now. Interesting to learn about that.

I tell anyone that I know if they get a new phone, "Hey, I'll take that from you". It works for a while, until some of them start thinking that I'm a phone hoarder. DTro
Here’s a cool trick I learned last night:So you can get a couple of docks for this phone (home and car). One way to emulate the dock screen is to download software such as “dock simulator” which is pretty cool, but here is something even better. The dock mode is triggered by a magnet on the back of the phone. One polarity for home, and the other side for car. Use can use this trick to build a homemade dock and just attach a magnet to the dock where it triggers the dock mode. It makes a nice beside alarm clock and media player in dock mode. Then you can make another dock for the car with the magnet flipped around.Several youtube videos out there showing exactly how to do this. LwnmwnMan2
No email yet saying the phone is going to be shipped, looks like it'll be at the end of next week (hopefully.

deadeye
I finally got the 2.2 upgrade today and its pretty nice so far. It sped things up quite a bit. I like having the extra screens and the new tab at the bottom. Lots of new stuff to figure out now. The only thing so far I don't like is That when using the touchscreen keyboard it doesn't pop up with its own screen now. Makes typing (especially on here) more difficult. Maybe I'm missing a setting or something.
pureinsanity
I am not a fan of androids. Ive played with many. Ive seen way to many drop calls, randomly freeze, and more importantly never recieve calls when I am right next to them... I don't see myself getting an android phone anytime soon. I will stick with my windows. Yes they have some awesome apps, but in reality for what I use my phone for I love me my windows phone! I can edit/hack the registry and totally customize the phone to do things I want it to do, not what the manufacturers way. However, by me doing this it does void the year warranty. Darren, download Skyfire browser. Neat browser for being able to play flash videos and do many things your traditional browser wont do. Slacker radio is pretty sweet too
deadeye
Ive seen way to many drop calls, randomly freeze, and more importantly never recieve calls when I am right next to them... That's odd. I have had mine since febuary and never had a problem once with any of that. My basic flip phone had more problems than my droid has when I think about it. LwnmwnMan2
"Your order has been processed and will be shipped as inventory allows".That was the email I got today, I thought FOR SURE I'd have the new phone before the end of the week.If anything, it's only 9 days before the 25th, when the Verizon HSOforum said it would be shipped by.I'm worse than the kids at Christmas right now. LwnmwnMan2
"Due to overwhelming demand, your Droid X by Motorola will ship on 8/25". First update I've had since I ordered it on 8/10. Must be one heck of a phone, OR Motorola is keeping the supply low to make it look like a high demand. Either way, my wife's friend walked in to a 'Premier Retailer' for Verizon and walked out with a Droid X. Darren - you still enjoying that phone? Shack
I really wanted my son to get a Droid X or even a Droid 2 (same price), but in the end he got a Samsung Reality. Maybe by the next time an upgrade comes around, he will have a job to pay for the top shelf phone. It came down to price and an episode just that afternoon when we arrived at the Verizon store. He forgot his phone outside on a pick-nick table at Gandpa's & Granma's house. During the round trip to get his phone, the Samsung Reality became a better suite for my son's cellphone reality with the $20 upgrade cost. LM2 as of Saturday the Droid X at the Verizon in Elk River was out two weeks and if my wife had ordered my son's phone that day, we were told we would see it on Sept. 7th and no later than the 15th. LwnmwnMan2
I actually received an email this morning, saying it was shipped and I would receive it tomorrow.I've been looking online, and now am leaning towards a Driod 2 with the keyboard, but I guess I'll stick with the X.I suppose I could sell the X, then reactivate my BB 8530. I wonder if they'll charge me the cancellation fee, even if I keep a data plan on the line.
DTro
You have 30 days to exchange your phone for a different one. I think they charge a $20 fee for doing that now since too many people took advantage of the system.
LwnmwnMan2
Right, but if I never activate this "X" and bring it to the store, I wonder if they'd still charge me?I'll have to check too and see if I'll have another waiting period for the "2".Off of Verizon's HSOforum, there's only 2 differences when you compare the X and the 2.The X is mobile broadband capable, and it has a checkmark next to VZ Navigator. I'd assume the checkmark just means VZ Navigator is already installed, but you still have to pay for the service, correct?
Shack
Yes, they will. It's called a restocking fee. Usally about 15% of the upgrade price. If it was un-opened you might have a "talk to the manager" chance, but if opened and not activated, yes you will pay something. Catch 22 is if you go to a retail store of any carrier, you upgrade, they always seem to open the box with out asking to activate. I am not sure if they will sell you one right off the shelf? When you order the phone comes boxed up. Nice perk if you wanted to turn around and keep the phone you have. This is the only way I will order a new or upgraded phone. You can always talk an operator into no and priority (over night) shipping, waive any upgrade fee ($20 AT&T and shows up on your bill after the fact), and most times save on tax verses buying over the counter. We asked when they had 6 Droid 2's sitting on the shelf.
DTro
No the navigator is free on the Droid X. Well it's not VZ navigator, it's a google version I believe.I also believe the screen size is bigger on the X there are also a few other minor differences:here's a good comparison. http://www.droid-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/internal-droid-family-comparison.png
LMITOUT
It seems like all of these high-end Android phones are hard to get. The Incredible is still out of stock and I haven't heard any word when the EVO's will be available again. The cause of the shortages revolve around supply issues of the screen, not so much the popularity of the phones(s).
deadeye
You still got to pay for Vz navigator and it is a waste of money for a android device anyway. Google maps and navigation is free plus im pretty sure vz navigator uses Google for the directions so you get the same thing for free. pureinsanity
Yes you have to pay for the VZ Navigator. Google maps all the way! I have it on my windows phone. However it doesn't speak to me, but it does show me moving. I have a Garmin if I want it to talk to me. I have the volume down on that sucker anyway!
