Vista & Acrobat Reader

I've noticed that since installing the lastest Reader update on my PC with Vista that it struggles to open .pdf files without errors. The errors seem to revolve around the formatting of the document such as fonts. Eventually it'll advise to contact the document creator to fix the problems.

On my PC with Windows XP and the same version of Reader installed I have no issues whatsoever. I did a quick internet search but didn't find much.

Ideas?

Roll back to an earlier version of adobe, I am still using 5.0 with no problems. I am not fond of new version of adobe my self. I have yet to come across a .pdf file that 5.0 or 6 won't open, but I have had issues when I have used the newer versions.

I thought of that, but I'm a little leery about downloading an older version from an unknown source, unless Adobe offers older versions that I haven't seen.

How the heck did you find that? Everytime I thought I was sneaking up on a place to download an older version it put me right back at the link to version 9. I'll have to give that a shot.

That download won't work because it's an "update" and not the full program.

I did some more digging on Adobe's site and found version 8 so I'm going to try that.

Well that don't make no sense. Reader version 8 on Vista won't open the .pdf file I'm trying to view correctly either. Yet version 9 on XP works fine.

Vista is a plague. I know no major facilities whose IT staff has rolled out vista. A few are looking seriously at windows 7 tho. I need to break down and get a copy of 7 and check it out.

I do a have vista machine at home and it is OK, but it is clunky. And I have adobe 9 o this and have not had any issues yet.

What kind of issues are you having opening the file? Is it opening at all? Or just messed up looking?

I keep getting errors about font widths and it won't show all the info on the pages because of this.

Have ya Googled the exact error? Vista is like sheephead, fun to catch, but untested to eat.

It could be some sort of view settings in adobe or your computers screen settings.

Yeah, I've searched for help on the various error messages but found little help.

Time to head to the store for a copy of Windows 7. Enough is enough.

One more thought would be to completely un-install and do a fresh install of adobe. I mean go as far as deleting all the folders etc when un-install is done. Then do a new install of adobe.
